Group Riding, Hand Signals

These signals do not cover every situation,
but they will cover the most common.

When the Lead Road Captain displays a signal,
it is up to everyone in the group to pass it back to the riders behind them.

CAUTION:
A
t 70 mph the wind forces can be significant!
ALSO,
DO NOT sacrifice control to give or pass a signal!

START YOUR ENGINES:

With your right arm extended, move your index finger in a circular motion.

STOP:

Extend your left arm at a 45 degree angle with the palm of your hand facing rearward.

         

LEFT TURN:

Raise your left arm to a horizontal position with your elbow fully extended.

RIGHT TURN:

Raise your left arm to a horizontal position with your elbow bent 90 degrees vertically.

         

HAZARD LEFT:

Extend your left arm at a 45 degree angle and point towards the hazard.

Or, you can point with your foot as in the next example.

HAZARD RIGHT:

CAREFULLY,
extend your right foot to point towards the hazard.

Do not kick the hazard!

         

SINGLE FILE:

Position your left hand over your head with your index finger extended upward.

STAGGERED
FORMATION:

Extend your left arm upward at a 45 degree angle with your index and pinkie fingers extended.

         

SLOW DOWN:

Extend your left arm at a 45 degree angle and move your hand up and down.
